Well that was quite a week! It started on Friday 8th<\/sup> of April with the information evening about Tiny Houses organized by political party \u2018Groen Links\u2019 Alkmaar. The Leader of the party, Christian Braak, was present at the interview Monique and I gave in Hoorn and was so enthusiastic that he immediately asked us to come to Alkmaar. A request we obviously couldn\u2019t refuse, and a date was quickly set. Twice Christian had to find a larger venue for the event as the registrations just kept coming in. In the end more than 200 people joined us in Hall 25, where Jetty and Maarten of Min2<\/a>\u00a0also gave a presentation on Tiny House architecture and Christian encouraged the local political parties to stimulate such an innovative and sustainable form of housing. Councilor van der Ven was very positive and indicated that he saw multiple possible locations in Alkmaar. I, of course, used the opportunity to let her know that I was looking for a location as of mid-May! ;). Of course, the councilor was not able to comment on this immediately, but the possibilities for Tiny Houses in the city will be discussed during the next few weeks. Let\u2019s wait and see!<\/p>\n

Last Tuesday my Tiny House was out in the open for the first time; it had to be weighed to see what its status is. I personally don\u2019t have a proper vehicle or license to transport the house, but I don\u2019t expect to be moving very often once it is finished so that isn\u2019t necessary. After posting a message request on Facebook, I received a response the same day from Bauke who offered assistance with his Land Rover. Really wonderful! Bauke, thanks so much for your help! You can watch a brief video of the ride here<\/a> . Dimka from Tiny-House.nl<\/a> and Bauke took my house to the weighing station at Huissen, and the result did not disappoint: 2560kg. That said, my house is not nearly finished yet: the cladding, kitchen and the rest of the interior still need to be installed, and that really adds up in weight! The maximum weight for a BE license is 3500kg, and that\u2019s easy to reach. So, it\u2019s pretty tight, and Vincent an Laurens from Walden<\/a> have made a new calculation which we will discuss tomorrow.<\/p>\n

I will also see the beautiful window frames, windows and doors then, which were delivered on Monday by Jacobs Timmerfabriek<\/a>! Dimka installed them immediately, so they could be weighed along with the house. They are truly beautiful frames made of thermally modified Platowood, and they fit perfectly with the Modiwood<\/a> cladding. I saw the cladding, which was delivered last week, and it looks great. Such beautiful wood! I can\u2019t wait to see it installed on my house as per Walden\u2019s design. This is the first time that Jacobs Timmerfabriek has made frames from this wood. A real scoop! They look amazing and the process went really smoothly; well done to Peter Jacobs and his team!<\/p>\n

Oh wait, I almost forgot to tell you something important. Last Thursday I picked up my little bathtub. It had to come all the way from Renobad<\/a> in Belgium, because I couldn\u2019t find a bathtub with the right measurements in Holland. Renobad has quite a wide choice in small bathtubs, so off I went to Sint-Gillis-Waas. Quite a journey! But it was worth it. I am so happy with my bath; it fits exactly. The model is the Toronto New without seat, in case you are wondering. So, what\u2019s happening? Now that the frames are in, Dimka can start with the cladding. You can expect an article soon about the construction of the walls and the choices of material for cladding and roof. Some more Tiny House Techniques! Next week the Bruynzeel<\/a> kitchen will be delivered and fitted, which is another milestone that I really look forward to. Isn\u2019t it great, all this news!
